Tales of Monkey Island - Tribute by Shiruba-Wakahisa Tales of Monkey Island - Tribute by Shiruba-Wakahisa
Now you get a rough idea how I spent the last couple of days, folks!
SPOILER WARNING THOUGH!! XD

You know, The Secret of Monkey Island pretty much was the first game I ever played. (Together with my Dad since I had only been a little girl back then. XD)

So recently I found the old game disks when my Dad tidied up his room and I remembered how much fun they were.
Out of curiosity I just googled what became of Monkey Island over the years.

And then my surprise: Telltale had released a fifth game just a few years ago!!!
Without thinking twice I ordered ToMI - and instantly fell in love with the crazy characters and amazing puzzles again!

As you know, I always have the imminent urge to draw fanart of the things I'm currently "obsessed" with.
So here's my tribute to one of the most amazing game series that ever existed!

*cough* I'll stop my hymnes of praise now and get back to work! XD

Oh wow, this is totally amazing!

I especially like the liberal use of TM reminds me of the first game where EVERYTHING seemed to have TM after it! :D

My first Monkey Island game was actually the second one! Man, I loved it...My brothers and I used to play it and do the voices :)

I have to add, I particularly love your picture of Guybrush emptying his pockets! I just loved that part in Monkey 2 when he sticks the giant Monkey Figurehead in his jacket. :D

And special love for Murray! Whoever came up with him is a genius!

I know right?! XD Guybrush just seems to have some Voodoo pockets or something. XD I just love craziness and randomness of this series! XD And the fact that the characters just love to defy the logic of nature and physics! XDD

Nobody came up with Murray! Murray created himself and now haunts the depths of the Monkey Island series...! :iconmurrayplz:

...I dont know.
I mean you did a fine job with the pictures, anyone who even considers doubting that is a dirty liar.

I just dont like this game all that much. I grew up with the first and third game of the series and comparing to those, Monkey Island 4 and 5 felt kind of ... lacking.
4 didnt feel like I was playing a Mighty Pirate(tm), more like an errand boy. The awkward controls didnt do it any favors either.
It had its fair share of snappy one-liners, but since pirates were hunted, it didnt feel like a Monkey Island game. And dont get me started on what they replaced insult swordfighting with.

5 was better, but the awkward controls returned. At least I didnt feel like a tourist all the way through. (Probably because I didnt play it all the way through, I lost interest after chapter #2.)
What I saw was a lot more pirate-y than all of MI4 combined, but most of the quest felt pointless to me.
Im sorry I dont have all that much to say about MI5 and few of what I have to say is positive. I loved MI 1 and 3 to death, playing 4 broke my heart and 5 didnt quite make up for it.
._.

I feel the same like you, for most parts at least.

I grew up with MI1-3, too, they were the first games I ever played. But I'm not that big of a nostalgia fag that I'd categorically hate or disapprove of every new game.

MI4 was without doubt the weakest game in the series. However I think MI5 was really great again, except for the strange controlling.
It had the most complex plot and characters of them all, even though it didn't have anything to do with Monkey Island this time. XD At least nothing that we know about! oO

Well, but that's just me. XD
You might be happy to hear that Ron Gilbert is currently trying to buy back the rights of the Monkey Island series.

I decided to give MI4 and 5 a shot for that very reason (not wanting to be an oldschool gamer who demonizes everything new)
5 was okay as far as I played it. Didnt feel like Monkey Island, but I saw the Human Pirate LeChuck (wtf), the Voodoo Lady(tm), this wacky french doctor and pirates so it was alright.

I know about Gilbert, but good luck to him. LucasArts belongs to Disney now, I doubt they would give it up just like that.
He will have to bleed for it.
